To Portugal for the weekend
A beach holiday in Portugal is good in every way. Excellent water quality, safety, varied service, good environment and equipment.
We have compiled a list of the best beaches in the Algarve, where a favorable climate and well-developed infrastructure.
Choose a beach for yourself:
Marinha is the most famous place for a relaxing summer vacation, where you can meet guests from different countries. He became famous thanks to the bizarre coastal cliffs, which are located on land, and go into the depths. The water is surprisingly clear, and white sand feels like silk to the touch. On huge spaces it is always free enough to sunbathe and play.
Tavira is a series of several beaches, among which the most famous are Barril and Terra Estreita. Snow-white sand is distinguished by impeccable cleanliness, which is carefully watched by responsible services. Within walking distance are many restaurants.
Falesia – gained wide fame due to the unique, seemingly unearthly, landscape. Magnificent panoramas inspire creative people and attract many visitors, among whom are lovers of water sports.
Rocha – located on the banks of Portimao. Quite lively, but due to a well-thought-out organization of space, there is no crowding there even at the peak of the summer season. Closely adjacent to it is Praia dos Tres Castelos, where there are much fewer vacationers. But for those who do not interfere with the fabulous rock formations and active waves, this place seems ideal.
Odessa is a nudist beach, isolated by a river and sand dunes. It is very popular in certain circles. But during the tides it is almost completely flooded, which is not very convenient.
Amoreira is a territory near the confluence of the Aljezur River with the ocean. Thanks to its good location, even with strong sea waves in shallow water, it is quiet and safe.
Portugal continues to be a blank spot on the map for most Russian-speaking tourists. According to estimates by the Federal Tourism Agency of the Russian Federation, in the first nine months of 2016, Portugal accounted for less than 0.13% of the total number of Russian citizens entering foreign countries. Whereas more than 14% of entries were made to Finland.
Our tourists explain such a low interest in this wonderful country not only by great distances, but also by their lack of knowledge about the merits of a holiday on the edge of Europe. Unfortunately, few people know that Lisbon, Madeira and the Algarve are a paradise for travelers with a broad outlook.
Information about Portugal that is useful for everyone to know
Lisbon is the only European capital on the Atlantic coast.
This oldest port city (rather dirty and dangerous) was destroyed by the monstrous earthquake of 1755 and rebuilt again, becoming a bright and elegant city.
The Tagus River, known in Spain as the Tagus, flows through Lisbon. Before merging with the ocean, the river forms the bay of Mar da Paglia, which is often called the estuary. Lisbon is located on the right bank, and on its left – its suburbs, the independent towns of Montijo and Almada.
The river can be crossed by ferries, which are part of the public transport system (you can use the common travel cards for land transport and the subway). There are also two noteworthy bridges: Vasco da Gama (it is the longest among European bridges) and April 25 bridge, similar in color and design to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
There are many viewing platforms in the capital (new ones are also under construction. Among the popular ones is the Santa Zhusta elevator platform (a pass is suitable for lifting).
Many houses are decorated with azulejo ceramic tiles, one of the symbols of the country. Even created the National Museum of Azulejos. Separate tiles (often decorated with the famous Portuguese cork) are used as elegant hot coasters, and they also decorate the interiors of several-tile panels.
In Lisbon, beauty can be found in the most unexpected places: for example, casting a look under your feet at the pavement with bizarre patterns.
The main city of the country is small, so over the weekend you can get a pretty complete picture of it: take a walk, take a sightseeing bus, rush along the winding streets in the fast historic yellow tram number 28, take a funicular ride. However, over the weekend it is difficult to visit all interesting objects: a zoo, an aquarium, parks, ancient cathedrals, monasteries. Climb to each observation deck. Get acquainted with the expositions of museums. Visit the tasting rooms. But there is still a flea market Feira da Ladra. Since 1882, he did not change his location on Campo de Santa Clara. Open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In the summer, many use the opportunity to swim in Cascais and Estoril – elite resort areas of world significance. There is a casino in Estoril, which was visited by Jan Fleming, and then wrote the book “Casino Royale”. She became the first in a series of publications about James Bond.
